what do built in network cards do?...do u need a seperate adapter?....will built in cards get u on a wireless network?...cuz my mom has a dell notebook and it detected somthin wireless...i know its some kind of card

they are the same as the other cards, they just happen to be built on to the motherboard.

Based on a few old experiences, I always disable a built-in network connection and put in a PCI card. I've found the onboards to be problematic.

It's a notebook, why disable the onboard and use pcmcia? They are no more problematic than aftermarket. Yes you will have to configure it in the wireless lan connection.
