Specs: Windows XP, ?/1GB

After a week of battling some nasty viruses, I am at the point where there are a few lingering symptoms and my tools can't detect the source.

Here are my symptoms:
1. occasional, apparently random browser (IE) redirecting
2. page fault BSOD when I try to enter Safe Mode
3. inability to open the Device Manager ("mmc.exe Entry Point Not Found - The procedure entry point ?PickIconDlg@@YGHPAUHWND__@@PAGIPAH@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library mmcbase.DLL.")

I have updated versions of:
-Malwarebytes' Anti Malware
-Spybot Search & Destroy
-McAfee Antivirus

They have each found and fixed a number of things over the last few days, but the symptoms persist.

Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. I am currently away from the infected computer and will likely not get back to it to try anything until tonight. I will respond to replies as soon as possible.

I am guessing that you are using Win XP SP2. If so, an update to SP3 will probably fix the problem with Device Manager. Try SuperAntiSpyware to fix the redirect problem.

No luck.

I'm already using SP3 and SAS only found cookies.

Thanks. Hitman found a rootkit and seems to have eliminated the browser redirection, but I still can't get to the Device Manager.

Any suggestions on that one?
