Comment:
I am running Windows XP x64 edition (actually based on Server 2003)
Most every link in a google search in Firefox (latest edition 3.0.7) redirects to advertisement webpages. Same problem with Digg links. I have Ad Aware, Symantec Antivirus, and Windows Firewall (no better firewalls for x64 that I know of). Scans have come up with nothing. For some reason the latest versions of TrendMicro House call and Spybot S&D have stopped working. They say they don't support my platform. Both used to work (older editions, around a month ago) but it could just be a new 64-bit issue.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I booted up in Safe Mode. Per other similar threads I disabled all security tools and scanned with ESET, and then with Malwarebyte's Antimalware, both set to full system scan. No results. Java is up to date v6 update 12.

How odd, I thought Firefox was almost impossible to hijack, especially compared to IE. Speaking of IE, does google search using IE take you to advertisement webpages also?

Yes, IE redirects as well. Also, my HijackThis log shows a number of "(file missing)" entries, though when I navigate to the "missing" exe's in explorer they are there.

Just because HJT shows that files are missing doesn't necessarily make is so, especially when it comes to infections that can cause files to return. That will continue to happen until the main source(s) of the infection(s) is/are eliminated.
BTW, what kind of advertisements does it redirect you to? It could be a case of Smitfraud. If it is you can download the fix here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/fil...
You still may need to remove some files and registry entries manually. If you know what you're doing, you know what to look for, otherwise it would be best to find someone experienced in HJT to assist you.
Good luck.
