I haven't seen this one anywhere on the web so far, and it's worth a warning. Yesterday my browser (IE 6) was hijacked by a web site that calls itself "Iwantsearch." It put a new toolbar at the top of my browser and changed my start page to their site. It also dropped a bunch of popups on my desktop. I struggled with this all day yesterday...even sent two rat-rage emails to Iwantsearch...they told me to go to Add/Remove and get rid of the entry for SBSoft. Yeah, right. Windows wouldn't touch it. I finally got rid of that entry using the uninstall feature on Reg Cleaner, along with their registry keys. But it all kept coming back. Ad-Aware showed nothing. I ran a virus scan which picked up on a Trojan Clicker Agent N in one of my dll files. I quarantined that. All day it just kept getting worse. Each time I rebooted my computer, I got bunches of new icons on my desktop, as well as Iwantsearch at the top of my Start menu. I uninstalled IE 6, which reinstalled IE 5, and then I found I could neither open or download my email. The IE 6 setup requires more downloads, and I couldn't download ANYTHING. The computer finally stabilized enough that I was able to download a tiny program named Start Page Guard. Realizing I needed to update my Ad-Aware, I was able to get that done, and when I ran it, it came up with 134 registry keys and files...about half of them were something called "Coolweb." I've spent most of today getting security patches from Microsoft for IE 6 which, as I understand it, is as full of security holes as a chunk of swiss cheese.

So, if you haven't met up with Iwantsearch yet, here's some advice. Keep your Ad-Aware updated. I've had browser hijacks before, but never anything like this.
