Comment:

I have 12 blue files in my windows folder they all say something like $NtUninstallKB823182$. At the same time these blue folders appeared all my microsoft patches that were showing in the add/remove folder disappeared.. I didnt think these could be uninstalled. I definitely didnt delete them...

I went to microsoft update page and had to download 17 critical updates!!

Is this the work of some nasty?

Anyone shed any light on this for me?

As long microsoft update site says you are up to date I'd not worry.

Might consider running a virus scan and ad-aware etc...

I was up to date a few days ago and then all of the sudden my patches disappeared from the add/remove box.. and microsoft update said i had 17 critical downloads to get... patches aint much good if some nasty can just remove them when it needs to....

When you do an update of windows, it gives you the option to save the old files in case you want to uninstall the update and go back to the previous configuration. If you look inside you will see something like spuninstall, that will uninstall the service pack that you installed. No gremlins to worry about!! :)
