It appears that I have a very bad Blaster Worm infection in my computer. I thought that I had kept my Windows and Norton programs well updated and all turned on all the time correctly, However the computer went crazy and now cycles on for about 60 seconds and then shuts down after giving me the RPC termination message. Several solutions mention going to run, but it does not stay running long enough for the task bar to come up. Are there any ideas out there on how I can access the computer in some other way? Or are there any other solutions?? Starting in safe mode doesn't work either, still shuts down before task bar comes up.

Give this thread a few hours, maybe someone has the answer for you. However, I have what MAY be a workaround.
Download and burn to CD the ISO of Knoppix; Knoppix is actually a version of the Linux operating system that you can totally boot and run from your CDrom, bypassing your harddrive and XP altogether. However, you can enter the XP installation on your harddrive and make changes, save data, use your USB flash drive and burner, whatever. It is dead-easy to run, believe me. There is no learning curve.
Use Knoppix to enter XP and kill Blaster, if that's what it is that is bugging you. It opens into the XP desktop, and as far as you are concerned, it's exactly like you are cruising in XP!
By the way-when installing XP, one of the very first things I do is enter Administrative Tools/Services and disable Windows Messenger, so that stops Blaster from downloading. End of problem.

In the download page, click on any EN links for English, otherwise you will face German.Here's a good tut on Knoppix:

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day;
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime;
Then industry pollutes the water and kills all the fish.

If you do not have the XP firewall turned on, or a hardware/software firewall installed, you will get the blaster! Go here and use JackG's solution:
