Comment: I have noticed the startup tab in msconfig there are 4 blank entries with the box on the left side checked. I did find a sorta of a fix editing the registry and deleting blank keys at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Window\CurrentVersion\Run There were 10 but now only 4 show up and I'm stuck. Is this anything I should be worried about?

Reply: (edit)I find that some say to use a reg cleaner but I really don’t want to use them. They can do more harm than good. Could this be the works of a virus I had in the past? I already did a google search and in my 1st post is the only thing I found that somewhat worked.

Reply: (edit)If you think it is a virus start windows in safe mode and then run your anti-virus program. When you say had in the past what do you mean? do you mean you never got rid of it before or forgot what you did?

Reply: (edit)Try the 'Issues' fixing option in CCleaner - it's a registry cleaner but not a very invasive one & I've found it to be the safest one around at the moment - plus CCleaner itself is a useful tool just for getting rid of rubbish. "I know that I'm mad, I've always been mad"

Reply: (edit)Needalilhelp, I had a virus a couple years ago and yes I got rid of it I guess. At least kaspersky, ewido, adaware, spybot doesn't report anything. johnr, I ran CCleaner and had it delete all that it found in the "Issues". After it deleted I ran it again and it found about 100 more items, deleted, ran it again and it found another 20 items. I find this a little odd.

Reply: (edit)I would open the Registry to the proper key and compare what's there to what's listed in msconfig. Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

Reply: (edit)HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Window\CurrentVersion\Run and msconfig looks the same with the expection of the blank items in msconfig. Does msconfig cleanup run in the background? I don't really want another program that take more resources away. I have kaspersky and ewido running and my computer is already running slower than it used to by running those 2 programs. I used to have over 50 processes running and now I have 39.

Reply: (edit)Ran RegScrup and went ahead and let it fix all problems. It fixed the blank items in msconfig startup. I'm running Panda online scan now.

Reply: (edit)Well my computer is just getting more strange. I rebooted after the trend micro online scan and now I have an icon on the bottom right corner which is "sql server service manager". Where and how did I get this? Is is from the panda or trend micro online scans?

Reply: (edit)I ran kaspersky and ewido in safe mode and they found nothing. I haven't tried NOD32 because I have kaspersky installed. I couldn't find an online scan from NOD32. Which is better kaspersky or nod32?
