hey.. this is a quesion to all those who use black ice firewall... in the beginning.. when u 1st install it..it asks me all the programs that i want to permit access to the internet and all that.. it also asks me if i want a certain program to act as a server.. generally this only applies to p2p programs... anyways.. so my question is... how can i reverse one of the settings that i did.. because i want 1 particular program to no longer act as a server.. how can i reverse that ? anyone ?
any help would be really appreciated seeing as how the blackice tech support arent being too responsive...
thankswait... what ?

I am not familiar with Blackice, but it should be similiar to other software firewalls. Check the setting for something titled Communications or Advanced Programs. Try opening them and search for the program that should be listed as blocked and change it.

Do yourself a favor and get rid of blackice. There are a lot of free firewalls out there that do a much better job than blackice. Even in reviews it has done poorly when compared to the others.

Though I walk through the valley of Microsoft, I shall fear no OS for skills are with me

well out of the 3 firewalls ive ever used.. (norton, zonealarm, blackice).. blackice is by far the best.. and most efficient and doesnt swallow all my memory
altho i apprciate the criticism and advice.. id much rather prefer a solution to my problem...
thank youwait... what ?

"blackice is by far the best.. and most efficient and doesnt swallow all my memory"
It may be good for system resources, but the rest of your statement contradicts EVERYTHING I have ever read about firewalls.
Blackice has sucked for a long time, that is why no one knows how to fix your problem. WE DON"T USE IT.
good luck

Blackice is absolutely horrible as a firewall (check, as always :P, www.grc.com)
Most experts recommend ZoneAlarm, but those of us who aren't being paid to like it (or have no idea what they're talking about and are just repeating the so-called 'experts') find that every new patch brings only new problems. Security-wise, Zone Alarm is likely the best program you're going to find. However, stability-wise, it's not exactly the greatest.
I administer short of a dozen computers on my home network, and every one of them has had Zonealarm installed at one point in time (excluding the Linux box). Of those, EVERY ONE has had problems with Zonealarm either crashing repeatedly or slowing down the system immensely while downloading multiple files (sometimes both). And as for Norton....I've never used the firewall, but the antivirus has always been a huge memory-hog. By association, I'd assume the firewall is the same way.
We use Kerio; never had any stability or memory issues, and still get reliable (and more importantly, free :) protection.

thanks.. i was a fan of zonealarm too once upon a time.. but on many occasions my pc would be drastically slow.. and what do i see in my task manager.. hogging not 10k of mem.. not 20k.. but 400k... and growing... i uninstalled zonealarm so fast my harddriver had skidmarks...... u may complain and bitch about blackice.. but to me it hasnt offered anything more or less than zonealarm..and it doesnt gobble up my mem.. "thats all i have to say about THAT".. but i will give your Kerio a shot...im always open 2 suggestions
wait... what ?
