Comment: Hi I tried out the highly-rated BitDefender 9 yesterday (just the Spyware scan part). My brief, and very possibly only, experience was that this is a quite incredibly enormous resource hog. The full scan ran overnight and was still only 68% complete after more than 9 hours (although the estimated remaining time was 16 hours which would have meant more than 24 hours for the full scan). I literally could not do anything while the scan was in progress as the computer appeared to be absolutely gasping for breath. Even bringing up the task manager to get a better fix on what was slowing it down was almost impossible. Exasperated, I stopped the scan and tried to enter control panel to remove it. In all, this took about 35 minutes with the "gathering information" part of the removal consuming 20 minutes. Once BitDefender was removed and the machine rebooted, everything was back to normal. I should point out that my machine is infection free and indeed BitDefender itself found nothing in its 9 hour partial scan. Actually, I've had far less trouble with real spyware than I had with BitDefender. I would be very interested to hear if this experience is unique to me or have others made similar observations. Thanks Paul

Reply: (edit)Did you run the scan in safe mode? All scans run and check deeper in safe mode. I have never seen any scan take that long. You may try Ewido Anti-Malware " It'll Get Ya When You Aint Lookin " Please Post back to let us know if we helped

Reply: (edit)Bob Thanks for your reply. No, I didn't run the BitDefender scan in Safe Mode but I'm not sure this is the problem. I run a lot of scans, at least one per day with the majority of them in Normal Mode and have never had this type of problem. Yes, I have run Ewido (Normal Mode) and this scans through 250,000 objects in about 40 minutes. It seems like something is conflicting with BitDefender (possibly Windows OneCare or SpywareGuard which are the only two anti Malware programs I have running constantly). I would still like to hear from anybody who has had a similar experience and, better still, can explain it. Thanks Paul

Reply: (edit)Windows One Care is far more than a anti-malware program, it is also an anti-virus program. Did you disable the active scan of One Care, before you ran BitDefender? I would remove One Care, and keep BitDefender. Then I would get the Microsoft Defender anti-spyware program.

Reply: (edit)I was just searching Google to see if anyone else had the same problem with BitDefender scanning really slow. Mine is only scanning at 1 file/sec. If anyone has any suggestions with tweaks of the program or any known conflicts with any other programs, please let us know.
