Comment:

Basically on a thinkpad390E,i used to get 'no operating system found' when it was turned on.

I also found that i could not access the bios,as the previous owner lost the password.
Therefore i could not load my windows xp.

Someone told me to take the cmos battery out to reset the bios password. However after i did this i got this message:

'save to disc partition not found
save to disc feature is disabled
run Phdisc for information.File:Create new
PARTITION:consult manual'

And i still could not access the Bios!(but miracuously windows 98 appeared)

Can anyone help me out? Instead of taking out the CMOS battery is there a switch or something that i have to short?

The password that is set into a laptop is much more difficult to remove than a desktop. You need to have you friend contact the manufacturer, since he would be the registered owner. They will provide the necessary paperwork to allow a repair shop to reset it. This is to prevent theft. Take care!
