Subject: Bios password problem |
Comment: I found an old computer and when I go into the bios, a password is required. The thing is that I don't know that password. Any clue on how to get it/get rid of it ??? I thought of reinstalling the bios, but I haven't tried though, good idea ? I have an Award Bios (1992-94) Thanks, Pat.

Reply: (edit)Remove the cmos battery, looks like a big watch battery, about the size of a quarter or half dollar. Some computers just take a few minutes for the bios memory to delete, some can take hours. If the computer is several years old, this would be a good time to take the old battery to Radio Shack and get a new one. Install the new one, and you will be prompted for your new password. All the best!

Reply: (edit)Ok, I don't know why, but there isn't any visible battery on my MB. I know what It usually looks like, I've seen some many times but I can't find one on my MotherBoard. Although, I found what look like the bios chip, would It be a good idea to unplug it for a while ? Thanks again. Pat.
