Hi!
I having serious problem with my BIOS. It cant find my HDD.

The problem started yesterday when i was downloading some files while i was sleeping. When i woke up and looked at my computer, the OS, windows XP pro, stood still. So i restarted the computer and then when it was trying to load winXP it said that the file hal.dll either didnt exist or it was corrupt, so it couldnt start winXP. So i restarted the computer again and started my backup OS, win98, instead. It worked properly so i figured that all i needed to do was to reinstall XP. So I restarted the computer and started the setup for winXP. Then when the setup was checking my harddrive cofiguration how i had partioned it and so on, it said that there were no HDD plugged in. Every time i restart my computer since then, the BIOS say that theres no HDD plugged in. I've tried start from another HDD i know works OK, but the Bios cant find it either. I suspect that it's a virus or something that makes the BIOS unable to find any HDD because its able to find the CD-player which is plugged on the same cable as the HDD. What should i do????????

Heres some info about my computer:

HDD :
IBM 60GXP 40 GB 72000rpm

Mainboard :
Soltek SL-75DRV4 KT266A/133

I would be gratful for any help!!!!

A couple of things you didn't mention were (or i just missed it) whether you are able to get into your BIOS setup? How does your device manager show the HDD (if at all)? And last, what information does FDISK give you (if any). You can treat these questions as rhetorical if you want to. And just use them as a quick check list.
Good Luck!

Thx for giving me som tips on what to do, but i fear they didnt made my problem easier. Anyway here are the answers to your questions.
Yes I'm able to get in into my BIOS setup and in the BIOS i can ask the BIOS to autodetect the HDD but it cant find it, it just says none.

I dont know what you mean with device manager, but when computer is checking for IDE devices it say:

Primary master: NONE (this is were my HDD is supposed to show up)
Primary slave: CDROM,ATA33 (thats my CD-player)

If i start FDISK from a bootable disk it just say
No fixed disk present

I hope this give you or anyone else a clue on what i should do...
