If you have a BHO that is infected with or is a virus/trojan, can't you just remove/delete that file from the downloaded program files folder? Everything I see says to use Hijack This or a similar program. But why can't you just delete the dang file yourself, assuming of course that it isn't an important file?

Perhaps for the same reason you don't "uninstall" (most) programs by merely deleting them? Browser Helper Objects ... and what's wrong with using HJT! (etc.) anyways? Resist the temptation to close your request for help with semantically-null questions like “Can anyone help me?”

here is comprehensive hijackthis tutorial do not afraid to use this program. Just be careful when you will try to end processes. Anyway there are lots of automated tool to remove BHOs. Read reviews: here is the list of good antispyware programs and here is the list of bad programs called corrupt antispyware.
