hey, i recently got a virus which was a downloader virus, this downloaded a heck of a lot of stuff , the main problem being with ISTbar/powerscan or at least something similar to that name, i have adaware which has failed to do anything or even find anything. i updated and tried again but still didnt find anything. ive tried many spyware programs but each one can find over 80 types of spyware. the problem being that all of these programs are used for searching only unless i pay for it. i dont really want to pay for something when i dont need to. so im wondering if anyone knows of some good FREE spyware programs that are good with brower hijacks aswell as doing stuff with the registry cuz im to scared ill screw something up with editing it
thanks :)

try www.webroot.com

I have been trialing SpySweeper out for some time and it seems to be the best on the market...

'hey, i recently got a virus which was a downloader virus'

Spyware and virii are different.

Goto www.pandasoftware.com and use the online scan(lefthand side 'panda active scan')

See if that works for you?

i tryed spysweeper it got rid of some problems but it didnt do anything about the browser hijack. and my computers going really slow. it wont open up my computer, it just comes up with a message saying you have encountered a problem , windows will now shut down. this is the main problem because most of my files are in my computer and all other shortcuts dont work. i dont really want to delete everything on my drive cuz ive got alot of stuff on there that i want and i dont think it will let me put them on disks. also the virus was a downloader but it downloaded spyware aswell as a few other trojans and other viruses. the spysweeper picked up a few viruses that avg couldnt, everything is now updated on my comp but nothings working still
. any other suggestions?, thanks

hey, i tryed that panda online scan, it got rid of some again but didnt solve the whole thing. as for pest patrol i have tried that already and it spotted them all but i have to pay for it to remove them and im not in a situation where i can pay for it (and it would be stupid to pay for credit card while my comps trashed with spyware) are there any other ideas cuz right now i can hardly open any files at all

try out http://www.noadware.net/new1/?hop=searchd.
using any kind of free scanner can never go wrong. Is ur anti-virus program updated? i had Norton when I had Win ME, but somehow it cldn't detect some viruses. Now I reformatted my PC, installed Norton again and it seems to catch quite a few, not all tho. Try a scan in Safe Mode.
The NoAdware program is pretty good, if u don't want to edit anything in ur registry, just check up on the virus on the net (Symantec) which'll tell u wat u need to delete. The BEST thing wld be to reformat ur comp. Try saving some stuff to disk or CD-RW it if u can. What I did was upload almost all my files onto a Yahoo account, which can store a lot of files, and then d/l them again.
Note: uploading takes a helluva lot of time. hope this helped.
