You meant, your computer is 6 years old?

Ok here are my recomendation:
1. Firewall: ZoneAlarm 2.6 (get it from http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=zalarm). Reason for ZA 2.6: it's the latest version of ZA that is not so bloated. It's really good, stabil and fast.

2. AntiVirus: Nod32. It's the best firewall which nedd very low resources and it's FAST.

3. Spyware cleaners: MS AntiSpyware, AdAware, Spybot

For basic security here are some programs to look at.
Firewall:I have tried a lot of firewalls and ended up returning to the first that I ever installed.Zone Alarm.

Antivirus:There is no universal "best"antivirus.Take some suggested programs and trial them one at a time to see what you like the best.NOD32,Kaspersky,Bit Defender,VBA32,are all very good shareware a/v's.Some run lighter(NOD32)than others so that depends on your particular computer.Antivir PE is a very good freeware choice also.

Antispyware:I'd suggest running one of the free programs in a previous post and using the free scanner in Ewido Anti Malware as a backup.

Web Browser:!I rarely use IE.I recommend Opera and/or Firefox. They both are free.

JB

Am I reading it correct ZA 2.6 ?? It was released in 2001.

I am using ZA 4.5 for quite sometime and it appears to be very stable.

Do you recommend ZA 2.6 to be the best ??

FWIW the version of ZA that I have is 5.5.094.000.
This is not the first time that I have read someone recommending the 2.6 version.
It may very well be a less bloated version.
I have stuck with this version and avoided the latest update until bugs are worked out of it.

Regards,
JB.

I wouldn't know I use ZA security suite... I have to say though; software can be broken. For a firewall, sometimes going hardware is the best thing that you can do.

For spyware and other features: Spybot, Adaware SE, Microsoft Anti Spyware BETA

Spybot has some good features and tools as well, immunize yourself and think about using teatimer. The latest version of teatimer has a display bug, you can download a patch from the forums after you have registered. If you want, I can send it to you on MSN (wm_hunter1@hotmail.com)

For antivirus go with Mcafee, AVG or Norton (not bad for AV, crap for everything else). Personally I find AVG the best.

Browser: Firefox or nearly any other solid IE alternative; too much vulnerability from Internet Explorer.

@ xetcetc:
Yes you are right: ZA 2.6

Starting version 3 ZA become bloated and bloated.

Otherwise try Agnitum Outpost. It's really good.
