i've been using norton anti-virus since i got my comp but i've neither the cash or credit card to continue my subscription!! since then i've been using antivir but i ran housecall and it found a friggin' virus...so what do you think is the best free antivirus?? is AVG any better??

Other than antivir, which you a not satisfied with AVG has a loyal and strong following. There are two other programs that I know about. AVAST has a very decent user rating at the CNET Downloads website. The other is from a new company http:/www.gladiator-antivirus.com. It is available as a download from their website, and I have no idea about user ratings, just that it is free.

Avast home edition, AVG and antivir PE ... gladiator is crap ... still in testing stage, gives false positives and can't even update ???

AVG works well for me.
I must admit though that I don't "Walk on the Wild Side"...

avg work well for me aswell, i've had one virus/worm and avg caught it and removed it when housecall didn't.

IMHO avg is the sensible choice for the AVeraGE surfer!
