Avast, Norton or McAfee? I replaced AVG with Norton after Norton found many trojans AVG didn't, but it's considerably slowed down my system. Have also got Avast installed, hasn't detected anything yet. So, Avast or McAfee?
Thanks.

Norton finds many trojans and deletes or cleans them before they get onto your computer. McAfee doesn't slow down your computer as much, it runs nice and quiet but sometimes doesn't detech all trojans. If your a looking for a free AV with updates consider AntiVir.

I would not go with AntiVir , It is one of the
worst AVs out. If you want the best ,Then try
NOD32 or Kaspersky.. There are allot of others that will do the job as well. Panda and
F-Secure are real good too.

I know what you mean XPuser but this question will need die because every year a new version of a av program will come out and that mean new reviews on it. I don't know if there is a best av program out there but if you current av program does it job then you sould stick with it.

Also, if you want to really feel safe on your computer with a av program, only go to sites you trust and know. If you are not a person who goes to trashy sites, downloads everything, go to keygen sites, porn sites, then a simple av program is good for you.

My advice: If you surf clean then your av program will keep your computer clean!

My 2 cents worth... I use Trend Micro and the fact that they have a toll free 800 support number is in my estimation very important.

You can actually talk to a tech if you have a problem, I have done so and they were able to resolve the problem without waiting days for a return email with a link to FAQs.

I've found that there are always things one will do the other doesn't. McAfee detects some things that Trend Micro doesn't, and vice versa. I've never seen that Panda was any better than Trend Micro's free scan but the free scan does not offer protection just detection and deletion once you've got something bad. So prevention is just as or more important than removal. (keep that in mind)

I have not tried Trend Micro's paid products. I do know I don't care much for Norton's or McAfee as they seem to be more nuisance than a virus sometimes with those silly renewal popups, etc. One time it got so bad that I literally had McAfee pop ups every 2-3 minutes telling me it had expired and it didn't stop until I removed it all together. So that really turned me off to McAfee, but as a shameful hipocrit I still use them most. (BTW- Dell is offering a deal where you can get 24 month subscription to McAfee virus scan and a couple other things for only $20 so if you buy one- take advantage of that!)

One thing I like about Norton's is the parental controls.

But for the limited budget, something is better than nothing so if you don't want to buy one try Panda (is that the one by GriSoft?) If that's not GriSoft then I know they offer one free, too, just don't know the name.

I've often wondered the same thing but I believe this is like asking what's the best car? They all serve the same purpose but each will have something they offer that another does not or does not do so well.

Hope that helps.

Tricia
