Look, i will make it simple, lol.
What is the 'best' antivirus that there is corporate or home user. lets say moneys not an objectIntel P4 3.00GHZ HT 800MHZ FSB
512MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM
128MB Radeon 9200
80GB 7200RPM SEAGATE BARRACUDA

I would give these antivirus the best of the best.
#1-KASPERSKY
#2-NOD32
#3-bitdefender
#4-F-secureThe best of the best Trojan removers.
#1 TDS
#2 BocleanThese are all pay software. This is based on my personal opinion, and im sure you will recieve other personal opinions on the best antivirus.
COVER ME! IT`S A WAR OUTTHERE.

I myself prefer Norton Anti-Virus. I know a lot of people say it is a resource hog but if money is not an issue then DRAM should not be an issue either.
Then again what one thinks is the best is just personal opinion and nothing more than that from personal use. My advice is to evaluate them each yourself and then make form your own opinion to what you feel is the best.
KTTDThough I walk through the valley of Microsoft, I shall fear no OS for skills are with me

I agree with KTTD, I've tried them all at some point, and keep returning to the good old RELIABLE Norton's AV. (Not to be confused with systemworks or any other bundleware).
But Avast is ok, if you don't like automatic scans...AVG is ok, if you don't care about reliable updates....AVX is not very good (missed some test sigs)...McAfee is good if your system likes it...F-Prot is great (use it on non-windows boxes)...Kaspersky is great but needs more mirrors (like AVG)
So it's really hard to say whats the best. I would suggest you get some test files, put them on a throwaway box, and do your own testing with the free or trial versions, then make your decision.

Not sure about the comment about AVG , they keep things very up to date . They had a problem with there server for a couple weeks but you could still update and I have never had a virus in the 2 years that I have been running it , and best of all it's free .

Well I have test results that show between Jan 2004 and March 2004 over HALF the update requests to their official update site failed due to timeout issues.
If they have improved this we haven't measured further.
Maybe if your not an North American updater it is more reliable but for us, it proved nearly impossible on some days to get updates.
Now really this is 2004, and AV products as a whole aren't worth much these days since they have proven (and the posts here are good testimonials) that even a up to date AV product is not going to protect you from today's infections.
So whether you think it's the best or not, quite irrelevent, you'll still get infected if this is your only defense against Sasser (for instance).
