Hi. Just like to know what is the best antivirus program out there that won't "Hog" my system resources? I use to use Norton, but I find the newer versions really bog my PC down. I'm using McAfee 2007 right now, but I don't really like it. Any thoughts? Thanks.

That question has been asked here eons of times. The ones you are using are definately the most resource HOGS.

Just wait for a short time and the opinions will flood in. Bear in mind that most security suites use up the most resources.

I myself use Avast Free and Comodo Pro free firewall, plus Spyware Terminator...all FREE
They all work great together and are not as resource hungry as the 2 you mentioned in your post.

If you use your PC for small business, then I guess you should go with a paid subscription, but for home use, what I'm suggesting IMO is the best.

You can find those progs in the red link on my post.

The best antivirus program is really one that you've tested and approved regardless of what others say. As for myself, I use the same as XpUser4Real Avast free and Comodo.

A few things I have learned over the years is that you do not have to pay for a good anti virus or Int. Security software and second, no one anti virus is perfect. If Avast does not see or delete a virus that say AVG can see and/or remove, that alone does not mean AVG is better then Avast.

Try several different anti virus programs out for yourself over several months and you will see what I mean.

I would have to agree with yellowbelt. Use what is comfortable for you, test and experiment with different AV's untill you find the right one.

NOD32 is hands down the best...not a resource hog at all.

Why pay for an AV for home use? Doesn't really make sense to me unless someone has money to blow, I can surely think of other things I'd like to buy.

Well it depends whether you want to pay for the antivirus or not. If you do NOD32 is one of the best, if free AV is fine then I would recommend AVG. Also it depends whether you will use it at home or at work, if at home AVG is enough. Some people do not like this AV, so you may try AVAST, both are free to use and are pretty good. All three above mentioned AVs does not use much of computer resources, so it should be fine.

yellowbelt was right in a way, try several AVs and choose the one you like most of all.

Any AntiVirus that you TRUST!

Sounds too simple? How do you know if you trust your AV package?

If you do trust it, you will NEVER ask "Is this a virus again"!

NOD32
Avast
AVG
pre 2003 Norton
Comodo

to name a few!

Never install a "Security Suite", they are made for people with more money than brains.

Running OS in ram is another alternative to prevent infection of virus. Once it occurs, just reboot the computer, all viruses will be destroyed.
