Dear all, which antivirus to your opinion is the best you had ever used? Can anyone give me some name preferable a shareware but if freeware is good then I would like to know too.

This is a never ending topic, and there are allot of different AV's that are good. But
It all comes down to what You perfer to use.
you will get allot of different opinions.
So I would just try some of them out and test them yourself.

Emm... I do agree with your statement on NORTON.... Slows down PC, useup a lot of resource is one of its bad side but it had a solid protection.

Anyone heard of avast? What is your rate? Currently my choice rest on AVG or AVAST!. Hard to choose on which is better.

We get posts like this once every three weeks. It's becoming very redundancy. I suggest you use CN search function for past threads.

Avast IMO is better than AVG as it has free online updates and real-time monitoring as you surf the net. No muss no fuss, no scheduling....it's your choice.
If you use Avast, be sure to do a bootscan. A good firewall that works in conjunction with Avast is Comodo. Both free and work great!

Be sure to TOTALLY remove Norton from your PC or the other progs won't work properly. Go to Norton and get the proper removal tool for your version

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Chris, I have cleaned out Norton from many machines, also the trial versions out of many new machines. They are known as resource hogs and UNLESS you are running a business or feel that you need a paid AV, instead of spending $50 a yr on Norton or Symantec, you can get the same coverage for free from Avast plus like I said...REAL-TIME coverage while you surf.

If you'd like, look at all the complaints in the security forum about Norton and Symantec. They find problems but can't remove them. That's why real-time coverage is better IMHO

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Thanks guys. Indeed I had heard many bad commnets on norton. I too had ever used the Norton Corporate Edition 10 but it seem the definitions eventhough updated the date remains at 14-4-06. I got mad on this and reinstall! Upon installing it back, it says my system dont have the admin privilege. I got a shock on this since I never have my computer passworded and no other login users.

So I decide to shift antivirus. Price is not a matter to concern as long as it provide protection to keep my pc healthy. So I am now looking for the best antitivirus to replace norton(Symantec).

Hard to make choice on this indeed.

Chris Foo

I am very surprised when reading all posts dedicated to this subject !!!! only because all confusion made here about this or other program !!!!
For some the best program is and must be a freeware....
For others they just follow the OEM Symantec Norton configuration given by Windows when buying a new computer !!!
Original question was what is the best Anti-virus actually:
Response is Kaspersky 6.00.303, this program created by russian programer is the best in the world actually for the simple reason: the program is able to detect the contamination of unknowns virus corrupting a computer, alert is immediat, and eradication is total....
Have a look to the Kaspersky web site:

essential is to participe P.Coubertin

I would have to recommend NOD32. By far the best antivirus I have ever used.

I have had endless problems with NAV and would not recommend it to anyone.

TechRepublic had a discussion about Norton/Symantec products. Out of 150 posts there were 2 posts that said positive things about NAV. TechRepublic sent symantec a list of concerns with thier software and the reply that was sent back was embarrasing in my opinion.

Below is one of the many posts.

Here is the link to John Sheesley's blog. If you scroll down to the third post you can read symantecs reply to TR's concerns.
