Reply: (edit) I Use Panda antivirus platinum and it seems to work (I havent had any viruses). It updates daily and doesnt clog up your computer. Ive previously used pccillin (not good) and seen the badness that norton and mcaffee do (hence ive never owned one). it was £23 (~$40) on amazon (uk).

Reply: (edit)ultraxmode: You'll probably receive as many opinions as there are antivirus software manufacturers. For freeware, both AVG and Avast are reliable antivirus products. Though I don't use them myself, I have close friends who do and are quite satisfied. Myself, I've used McAfee for 4 years. In that time, I've never, ever been infected with a virus. Though I'm very circumspect about opening email attachments, I'm extremely adventurous when it comes to visiting websites. Nothing has gotten through. Using history as a guide, I see no reason to change. The cost is nominal, the protection optimal. In my case, what's not to like? 8-) Sincerely, Solarian

Reply: (edit)ultraxmode: McAfee VirusScan Online is extremely easy with your PC's resources. Right now, I'm showing 5,000K memory usage in Task Manager. About the same as Windows Media Player. 8-) Solarian

Reply: (edit)McAfee is good for most people, but the price increase for the online version, and the fact that it now just removes most things it thinks is infected has forced me not to recommend it. Will no longer let you download it. It now just deletes without warning, batch files like DELINDEX.BAT. On one friends system it deleted all his maintains batch files used to maintain his network servers. (Uses the DOS DELTREE command to clear out work folders.) Another lost three years of Netscape e-mail history when the updated version of McAfee found what it thought was a virus attached to an old e-mail, and deleted the history file he had been saving (business contacts).
