Comment: I wanna know what would you say is the best antivirus software out there (fast but safe at the same time). I can't make up my mind and choose between Softwin BitDefender 8 PRO and Kaspersky Personal 5 + Kaspersky Antihacker. Everybody's got their problems, everybody says the same thing to you. It's just a matter how you solve them.

Reply: (edit)Try AVG but out of the 2 that you mention Kaspersky seems the better alternative. D4Dog "beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder"

Reply: (edit)I would look at Kaspersky for the best, followed by NOD32 ,then F secure and then Panda. I have tested all of these and found that Kaspersky is the Best, But takes up more resources.. I Would take a look at NOD32, In My opinion It is the Best..

Reply: (edit)Try AVG Free...considering the price, you can't beat it...lol. It works well & doesn't seem to hog resources like some AV programs ASUS A7N8X-X Athlon XP 1800+ 8.5 x 200MHz 1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro SP2

Reply: (edit)Agree that AVG is pretty darn good/fast/reliable, etc..for a Free package. While I've not used it personally (yet), I've heard that Kaspersky extremely good of those that cost. > PLEASE CONTRIBUTE to Computing.net - Report back what did/didn't work for Others' Reference.<

Reply: (edit)I don't hear much mention of the free AV program AntiVir, but it's what I have been using for almost a year now ... haven't had any virus problems.

Reply: (edit)Of the two programs that you listed I would go with Kaspersky. I personally use Vba32 and I prefer that program to anything else that I have used. JB.

Reply: (edit)i did not like Avast! anti virus. the interface was odd to say the least (it looks like a media player) and it looked right over a virus that ZA security suite found. which brings me to my recommendation: Zone Alarm Security Suite. it is a great anti-virus anti-spyware and firewall solution in one and in my opinion is well worth the money. Never try to teach a hog to sing. It frustrates you and aggravates the hog.

Reply: (edit)Anything other than Symantec's Norton products are good. I've really enjoyed Computer Associate's "E-trust" program. I also run mcaffee antivirus on my other computer which seems to be fine. If you want the best anti-spyware program, then buy Webroots "Spysweeper" program. In fact all the products that webroot makes seem to be better than normal. (but if you have Windows-xp 64-bit edition, the only 64-bit antivirus program on the market is Avast)

Reply: (edit)In my opinion, Panda is the best, however, it's a bit of a rescource hog. AVG is an extremely close second, plus, it is easy on resources. I use AVG Pro, but the Free Edition works well. Macafee and Symantec/Norton are well known, but I'm not overly fond of either. No matter which you select, keep it updated and you should be fine. -dd

Reply: (edit)I just wanted to post some feedback for those who use Kaspersky. I trialled Kapersky, coming from a cocktail of Norton Systemsworks, ZoneAlarm and Microsoft Spyware. My computer deadened and slowed down incredibly to the point of uselessness. It took less than 30 minutes to install Kaspersky and over 2 hours to remove all of its entrails on my computer. There's no doubt that the scan is really comprehensive (it takes around 45 minutes to scan my computer) however it also freezes the available memory and leaves no capacity to multitask on Windows. One possibility is that I had only disabled Norton Systemsworks; Microsoft Spyware and ZoneAlarm whilst Kaspersky was running. However all 3 combined, still uses up less of my computer RAM than Kaspersky.
