Windows XP, 512mb ram

My Norton Anti Virus subscription, automatically given to me when buying the computer, is about to run out. I've heard that Norton is basically crap but it has helped me do alright so far. It cost $40 though to renew it and i would like to know if there is something better out there maybe.

Thanks

Definately an old question. I've used AVG, Norton and McAfee (last 2 are resource HOGS)
Avast! 4 home edition
has done me good for 5 yrs now, great online protection and updates as you surf the net. No need to set update times like other AV's.
Also be sure to use a good firewall.

Just be sure to go to the Norton site and get the uninstallation tools for your version...because Norton will be so imbedded in your PC, if you don't remove it completely, no other AV will work.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

$40 to renew Norton? I'd go with Kaspersky AV or a free program like Avast or AntiVir.
You definitely want to follow the advice given by a previous poster and get the removal tool from Symantech to clean up Norton's crap after uninstalling.

Regards,
JB
