AVG Free Edition will stay free, there is no expiration on it. As for how good it is, I use it at home (4 computers) and on all the computers here at work. We recommend it to our customers and install it for them, free of charge, if they request it. I've never had a problem with it, and as long as it's kept updated (I set mine to check every day) you shouldn't have a problem with it eaither.

Is Norton actually causing you a problem with its resource use, or is it an observation? If I were to switch from Norton, because it was causing a lockups, slow system performance and gaming resource problems, my choices would be; ESET'S NOD32, srnmicro's SOLO, Computer Associates ETRUST 6.1.4.0 and GRISOFT's AVG 6.0.

Hello Gardenair,
There is no Best anti virus software avalaible in the world, you have only programs whic complies to your wish, and as long as you are satisfied, you can consider you have a good program.
That's why I suggest often to try differents programs before to choose one....

I have always relied on NORTON and have never been disappointed.

I would suggest a paid product that has very regular updates, likely every few days or daily and has a good history and is widely used in the industry with good tech support and a forum for self help available somewhere on the web.

A good place to read:
