I apologize if this belonged in a different forum -- I wasn't entirely sure where I could put this.

Here is my concern. I believe some people are stalking me via another message board, and I believe they are using my IP address to see what sites I have visited. I've nothing to hide, but it's a little freaky when these people can find me under a completely different username on a whole other forum and talk to me about it.

I have tried using software to hide or change my IP - I used Hide IP Platinum, but it did not work.

These people know my name, and I have since taken measures to ensure they cannot locate me online (like my Facebook page and my old website, which I have since deactivated). Should I call my internet service provider and ask them to change my IP because I'm being stalked? Is it even possible to track someone's internet whereabouts with simply an IP address? I tried searching my own address and I found nothing except my city...no name, no surfing history, nothing. And they aren't just all talk because they publicly linked to places I have visited and been active in (including the webpages of people I know, so this isn't just about me).

I think I have covered all the bases by deleting unnecessary accounts and protecting necessary ones. Should I do anything else? I have no issue with people viewing any of my stuff, but really, this I think qualifies as stalking.

If you believe you are being stalked through IP address then our previous advices given you HERE did not help at all, correct?

Yes, I did try the techniques mentioned in my previous topic. I do believe, also, that my IP is static and won't change as easily, if at all. I've also tried proxy archives and resetting my internet options so it connects via a proxy server, but the IP address remained the same.

I tried ipconfig/all -- no effect.

I gave up on trying to get past a site ban...I don't know why I bothered to post that drivel, really. I also tried the change-ip-address.com website, which proved to be useless to me as well.

I am not on my normal computer at the moment, but I am going to try a free program called SwitchProxy when I get home - it will allegedly change my IP address. If all else fails, I may call Comcast and see if they can help me, though I don't know if they will -- I do not subscribe individually to Comcast. They are the providers of all the service in my dorm and I don't know if they'd change my IP in that event.

Uhm, I use switchproxy, it just allows you to switch between proxies quickly, but you'd need to have ACCESS to a proxy (it relays all your traffic for you) -- this is the same thing those 'hide your IP' blah blah sites would be doing, although everything 'before' the proxy would be your real IP....

Your IP address is used to route traffic to destinations on the internet...every site you wish to communicate w/ needs it to talk to you (Unless you're masquerading through a proxy), but nevertheless, you have to have an address to be on the network.

If you want to be really technical, you can change the MAC address on your gateway, reboot your router, and request a new DHCP lease -- that'll give you a new IP from your ISP (I've done this on my old comcast connection a few times)

Or maybe try TOR (can be hard to setup) but it's a free anonymization network that routes all traffic through several different hops so the final site always sees it from a different IP.

But in reality, you're probably just being paranoid. I doubt they're tracking you w/ your IP, they've probably just google'd on some key search terms & manged to find you again.
