Backweb is a generic, background downloading tool that software vendors can incorporate into their product to download data (e.g. product updates) to the user's PC. Its operation depends on the instructions given to it by the individual software vendor who bundles it. While this software has been neither exhonorated nor convicted of malice, some aspects of its installation and operation appear suspect. Additionally, some users have associated it with the appearance of unwanted advertising windows.

Back Web is installed on computers by manufacturer.Hewlett Packard and Compaq most notably.I suspect that Back Web is in my Hewlett Packard help files.I know that I previously found it some H/P file.SSD identified it as Back Web Lite.I understand that there is a new version out(of Back Web or Back Web lite) and it is being checked out.If you are unsure of removal, contact the writer at SSD.I know that he is aware of this Back Web program. You can do that by clicking"info and license">"credits".There are two addresses. The one for net integration forum is probably the better choice. He has a forum category there.Regards.JB

I read somewhere that H.P. uses backweb to light the green diode on the HP Internet Keyboard. All this light does is show that you are connected to the internet. I removed backweb which came preloaded on my HP and sure enough the light quit working however the connect button still works fine and nothing else was affected.
