Specs: Windows 7
When windows essential security first came out it advertised backing up to cloud type storage but now there is no mention of this facility.

You mean Windows Security Essentials, not Windows Essential Security.

Backup to Cloud is only available on Windows Server Essentials (for Server versions of Windows), and it isn't free.

It has never been included with the free product Windows Security Essentials.

Thanks for this news.
When I first downloaded Windows Security Essentials, 7gb of my 8gb files were stored in SkyDrive and a message appeared each time we logged in saying 1gb was not stored and we could pay to upgrade to store more. SkyDrive became OneDrive but later we noticed our saved files were not being saved in their latest version any more.
I've tried uploading all files to OneDrive but am bombarded with messages Saying I was uploading duplicate files.
The Which organisation reported "The Windows 7 backup function includes a full system recovery and full file recovery which is excellent. You can use Live Sync to back up your files online too. Microsoft Live Skydrive gives you 7GB of free cloud storage space, and you can pay for additional storage."
So you can see that I am a bit confused between your reply, my experience and Which's report. It seems that Microsoft must have removed this facility, but I can't find anything on their website, and I wonder what I can do now to have free backup safety.
Any suggestions?

To be really pedantic the antivirus is called "Microsoft Security Essentials".

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
