Comment: First can you give a definition of a 'Backdoor Virus'? Secondly I have been warned that merely clicking on a URL in an email can give me a Backdoor virus. Any truth to that statement?

Reply: (edit)A backdoor trojan (you probably meant trojan when you said virus as most viruses have no backdoors, opens a port on your computer allowing hackers to access your computer. For more information and help in protecting your pc, have a look at http://www.anti-trojan.org. Have a good read of that site http://www.anti-trojan.org as it explains what trojans are in easy to understand terms

Reply: (edit)Thanks. And is there any way you can get a virus or backdoor trojan simply by clicking on a URL?

Reply: (edit)Yes there sure is, hackers use problems with internet explorer to infect people just by viewing a web page. A new one just came out a few days ago and heaps of people are becoming infected with trojans. Your best bet is to use a non MS browser, eg opera, mozilla etc
