backdoor trojen

when downloading a programme from the internet i download it to a folder in my documents called downloads.then using norton virus scan 2002 i right click the programme and select scan with norton antivirus. i did this with each file and the folder and it gave me the all clear but when i clicked to install the programme up came a norton antivirus saying i had a backdoor trojen what is this,norton put it in quarintine then i delated it ...but my question is why dident norton pick it up in the first place when i scanned the files by right click then scan with norton antivirus.................

I took all the files out of compression before i scaned them.i also scanned the exe before installing into the computer and it was ok...what is a backdoor trojen anyway.

Trojans are sometimes not detectable when they are in their "hiding" state and are only seen as they start to install themselves. That is why you should always have your antivirus running in autoprotect mode. You will never go wrong that way.
