Comment: Last Saturday, I was searching for something on the web and accidentally ended up on a site I apparently was not supposed to be on. There was a directory of files. I clicked a couple of them but nothing happened. I hit the back button on my browser and immediately, a weird message from Norton AntiVirus popped up. Unfortunately, I didn't write it down so I can't remember the entirety of the message. I have had viruses on my computer before and I never got a message like this. It mentioned a backdoor Trojan horse and worms. It said I should either turn my computer off or upgrade to Norton 2003. I don't have the money to do that. The same night, I told a friend what happened. He told me to download ZoneAlarm, which I did. Immediately upon running ZoneAlarm, I discovered that someone was repeatedly attempting to hack my computer. If you aren't familiar with ZoneAlarm, it tells how many intrusions have been blocked since installed and how many of those are high-rated. 'High-rated' means the intrusion was likely to have been a hacker. The current number of high-rated intrusions is 214. Norton is not picking up any viruses on my computer. I don't know what else to do so I would greatly appreciate someone's help.

Reply: (edit)High Rated incoming traffic reports are normal. It is the outgong ones that you want to watch for, if you think you have a trojan. Check you progams area of Zone Alarm, and if you see something strange or that you do not know what it is remove it, and see what effect it has. I would set the Zone Alarm Alerts and Logs settings to Alert Events Shown-Off, Program Logging-High and Event Logging-On, this is so you will not go crazy. I believe that Norton advised you of a attempted attack by that website and the script blocking warning appeared, asking you to take action to approve/reject it. If you want to check for trojans start with the trojan scan at PC Flank's website. Then there is SWATIT(free, but not a real time program) from the Lockdown.Corp and the trial versions of the trojan programs at the PC Flank site(Tauscan, Trojan Hunter, Trojan Remover and TDS are all good ones and are real time programs). I do not think you have a trojan from what you describe. Take care and all the best!

Reply: (edit)Capt gives great advice!.I have used the pcflank scans myself. They are good!If that doesn't put your mind at ease, a trial of a good anti-trojan program is another good idea. There are some excellent programs available IMO.If you do try one out, check the reviews and details at the site he mentioned.wilders.org has some reviews also.Trojans are a real threat!Monitor your firewall logs! After some study, you can usually identify the processes that are normal internet activity in your computer. You could also cosdider the Visual Zone add-on program for ZA.I had that previously and I liked it a lot.It has a lot of educational tools and features. It's a "free tool" from wilders.Regards.JB
