Comment:

I just d/l AVG and ran it for the first time. It discovered a virus in my System Restore.

On the advice of AVG I saved it in my vault.

I ran it again and it found it again only this time it was unable to send it to my vault.

I decided to check here and look for some advice and decided my best option was to disable System Restore, reboot, and then enable system restore...

I digress, my question is this...

What do I do with that file that is in AVGs vault. Can I safely delete it now? Should I just leave it there and leavve well enough alone?

It's not an emergency anymore since I ran the AVG check again after I disabled/enabled system resore and it didn't find it anymore, but I'm just curious what I should do so I'll know how to handle it in the future.

Thanks for the advice in advance...

If you have restarted your computer and everything is still working properly and the virus scanner doesn't detect any more virus', then yes you can delete all of the files that are in the vault. If you need anymore help for that specific virus you should visit www.sarc.com and type the virus name in the search box. This will give you links to specifics about that virus and will probably even have a specific removal tool designed just for that virus with instructions on how to use it. Please email me if you have any more problems with this.

Thanks for your help. I've gone through the AVG check about 3 times to make sure it didn't pop up again and so far asll is well. I'll check out SARC and if I have any problems I'll let you know.

BTW- Thanks for allowing me to e-mail you in person if I have any more trouble. I appreciate it greatly.

Cheers

Okay I just came back from SARC and I couldn't find the virus name on their list. The name according to AVG was:

Startpage.3.H

located in:

C:\_RESTORE\TEMP\A0060535.CPY

And also:

C:\WINDOWS\IMAGE.DLL

The DLL file is what concerns me...The other one was in the restore folder and I'm pretty darn sure I eliminated that threat...Can I delete the infected DLL file without incident?

Hi Folks,
I to have been plauged with the startpage virous. Each time I think I have eliminated it, it comes back.

So far, the only program it seems to have infected is Adobe photoshop 5.5 and has also slowed down my system. I have great difficulty in starting Adobe.

Twice today, the AVG virous program has detected the virous. Twice I have removed it.

AVG has not replyed to my quieries. I am at lose as how to remove this thing for keeps.

I do belive it must have put code in the register.

If find an answere out there in cyber space I will report back.
