Using AVG (free edition)on PC. It is my understanding AVG is supposed to run a scan every 24 hours according to the settings on the AVG Control Center, Scheduler tab. The option to enable scheduled tests is checked.

However, have not noticed any scanning activity. This PC is not on all the time. Would that make a difference, or is there something I'm missing out on?

How does one know if a scan is run every 24 hours?

Thanks for the help.

If the PC is not ON,no scan.

If you click RESULTS,then TEST RESULTS
you will see all the scans that were really done.

If the PC is not on all the time, does that mean the scans will have to be done manually, when the PC is on, of course?

In the free version there is no option to set a specific time for the scan. AVG is supposed to run a scan every 24 hours according to the info on the AVG Control Center.

Test Results so far only show the one and only manual scan done a few days ago. Nothing else shows up.

I don't think that you need to run a scan every 24 hours if you scan the files you download.
AVG has an On Access scanner and it will
take care of a threat...
I have disabled all scheduling and run a scan manually every week or so.

FZWG,yes the free version does have this option. While you have AVG open look under "Program" and open"AVG Control Center".Under "Scheduler"you can set when you want the program to run.But it have to be a time that the PC will be on.You can do the same with the "Update Manager".When the program start the test, just Minimize the window and go on about whatever you was doing.

It does a boot scan each boot, and the 24 H scan can be done too, but the PC has to be ON.

The default is like 2 am in the morning so unless you leave your pc on all night it's not going to run , this is configurable via the main
AVG screen , just click the scheduler button for the time you want or just start it manually when you are on the computer , this geneally doesn't take man y resources and runs quietly in the background unlike something like Norton which which you might as when go have a donut while it runs .

Thanks for the info.

Got it to work!!

There is a Scheduler tab in the AVG Control Center frame, and there is also a Scheduler button in the AVG Program/System Status frame.

Enabled the test run in the Control Center, and set the time for the test/scan in the Scheduler button of the Program/System Status.

Worked like a charm.

Thanks again.

zacaryus,

Right click the AVG icon on the Systray (by the clock), and select: Run AVG Anti-virus.
Click the Scheduler button. Is: Enable scheduled tests checked, and a time set?

There is also a Scheduler tab in the AVG Control Center (Right click the AVG icon on and select: Run AVG Control Center.)

Both the program Scheduler button, and the AVG Control Center Scheduler tab need checked where it says: Enable scheduled tests.

Are they both checked?

Right click the AVG icon on the Systray and select: Run AVG Anti-virus.

Is the Scheduler button set to run at a time when the PC is turned on?

Right click the AVG icon again and select:
Run AVG Control Center. Select the Scheduler tab. Is: Enable Scheduled Tests checked?
