Comment: I am using AVG on 2 of my home comps. It used to work fine. Now I suddenly cannot use the update function in the Update Manager anymore. I have a (working) broadband connection but when I use Virus defininition "Update Now" button it does not detect the connection status and after time out comes up with a message connection could not be established. I have tried checking and unchecking "User confirms Dial-Up connection" - no luck. I CAN manually download the updated virus definition! How can I set it up the Update Manager correctly?

Reply: (edit)I had this same problem in AVG. I think it is a problem with their server as of late. This still happens on different computers. Eventually it will work if you keep trying. By the way, if you do happen to successfully start a download from their server, it might take a while considering the speed of their servers is down to a minimum.

Reply: (edit)Just go and get it yourself. Copy it to a folder, then open up the main AVG program, from the drop down menu, choose Service, then Update, direct it towards the folder with the update in it, and it will install. Just make sure you download the right update, if it won't work, try a different download, you probably have the wrong one. MrC AVG Free Updates

Reply: (edit)Thanks, haputanlas: this is exactly what I observed. MrCharlie: I agree it works fine if you pick up the correct update file! I rest in peace if it is not something I am doing wrong and can't work out.

Reply: (edit)wgm ..try this: (1) Check your AVG folder (default at C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6) for a file named URL.INI with following content :- [SERVER_NAME] 1=free.grisoft.cz [SERVER_URL] 1=http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe Actual URL=1 (2) Change it to : [SERVER_NAME] 1=www.grisoft.com [SERVER_URL] 1=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe Actual URL=1

Reply: (edit)You can also do this (below), which adds two extra AVG servers to the original. (Note that the "Actual URL=" line just indicates which of the servers appears by default in your Update Manager's list.) Cheers, Ander - - - [SERVER_NAME] 1=free.grisoft.cz 2=www.grisoft.com 3=ftp.grisoft.com [SERVER_URL] 1=http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe 2=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe/ 3=ftp.grisoft.com/pub/softw/60/fe/ Actual URL=2

Reply: (edit)Sodak...You Rock! For those use AVG 7.0 and having the same problem... follow sodak's advise those you won't find and .ini file. This change is made in AVG itself in the settings of the update manager! Once again...Thanks for the help Sodak!
