Yesterday I installed the AVG update 399 and it of course screwed up my computer. Today I installed update 400 but my computer is still screwed up. It won't shutdown properly and the DVD/CDR drives won't work. I don't know about the A drive. Some people have said that they ran disk defragmenter and/or uninstalled/reinstalled AVG without updates 399 and 400. After doing this the problems were cleared up.
My question is, do you think I should try one on these methods or wait til AVG puts out a "fixed" update? What kind of problems did update 399 do to XP computers? Is it considered serious?

Thanks

I disagree with jurgen. I have XP Home and downloaded the two updates Mike S. referred to and I have no problems. Maybe grisoft's website has info on problems with it.

Other people are having the same problems I'm having. Grisoft's website says that the 399 update does cause problems with certain operating systems but they didn't say it til AFTER I installed it. Now they have withdrawed that update and say that there will be a repair update soon. But that's all. I would like to know more about it.
If anyone know's anything please let me know.

Thanks

I had the same problem. Update 400 did the same thing as 399 to my computer. Simply uninstalling AVG solves the cdrom and shutdown problem. I have sent Grisoft 2 emails about the problem today, but no response yet.
I just checked their site and update 401 is now out, so maybe that will be the fix.

Yes, I ran all the updates to AVG too ... last one was 401 I think. Haven't had any probs yet. I thought something must have been screwed up at AVG with so many updates one after the other.

Update 401 did clear up those problems I was having but I would like to know if update 399 can cause damage to files or software or anything else. I can't understand why it would cause the DVD-rom drives to stop working.
