Hi. A friend of mine recently installed the freee AVG program after a format of their drive. Everytime they try to open the program it flashes and goes so they are unable to use4 the program. They are running an online scan with sarc.com to scan for viruses. Doesd anybody know how to solve the AVG problem?

You can't have two anti-virus programs running on a PC. They usually conflict with one another.

They arent running at the same time. The AVG just doesnt open up at all so i sent them the link to sarc.com to find out if there are any viruses that are stopping AVG from running

The original AVG download may have been corrupted. Have them download AVG again and reinstall.

AVGserv9 and AVGcc32 are the two managing files that should be in your friend's background programs (ctrl-alt-delete). See if they are both there. When you uninstall AVG-- file search for them and make sure both are gone in case one is corrupted.

Secondly, consider this:

Downloading Tip:

One other thing I do on downloading is, after you get the download, after download, AS SOON AS YOU SEE THE INSTALL SHIELD, BEFORE YOU CLICK THE INSTALL ICON, #1. log off the net, #2. disable AV (right click tray icon), #3. then ctrl-alt-delete to close AV in close-program, THEN (and only then) #4. click on the install procedure. Otherwise your AV might read the install as an invader and mess with it. Then manually shut down for two full minutes.

Since you are going to be downloading AVG you won't have an AV for protection once you are on the net, so be sure to go ONLY to AVG, get the download, click off the net, install it, log on to the net, UPDATE it, reboot after update, and run it immediately.

Unfortunately you cannot use this tip when downloading from Windows because they do not separate the download from the install, but it is a good thing for all other downloading situations.

I also run Spybot and Adaware-- updated and run no longer than at three day intervals.
