I currently have 2 anti virus software(only running 1 at a time of course).I wish to just use 1.Which 1 is best.AVG(Antivir) or pc-cillin(trend micro)?
THE PARIAH
ASROCK K7S8X M/B
AMD ATHLON 2000+XP
384MB DDR 266MHZ
GEFORCE4 AGP8X 64MB
MAXTOR 4R060L0 60GB H/D
WINDOWS XP PRO SP2UP THE BLADES!

I've had too many issues to recommend AVG, of course underline the word I've. I'm currently using Nod32, but have heard good things about Trend Micro also.
The best thing to do is test different ones, and see which one runs better on your paticular system, then you can look into which ones seem to "catch things better".

u really SHOULD look into NOD32, once u use it u will see it is the only av to have,..sweet thing about this fine product is its in depth scan settings where it will detect harmful scripts, and trojans, that its normal scan isnt setup for as normal scan is geared for viruses and speed.
so heres the website read up on them and look at the test results from independent lab testing and draw your own conclusions.

I've tried both, and IMHO, I would recommend AVG. Very little resourc usage, frequent updates and heuristic scanning. If you read any pc magazine, its always rated after nav2004, but much higher than nod.

sid,
how can a free anti-virus be better than a payware anti-virus like nod32 especially when you have read virus bulletin?
i've been using nod32 for the past 4 years and nothing comes close to it save perhaps hauri anti-virus and kapersky labs.
i've got nothing bad to say about avg, but here we are talking apples and oranges.
all the best,
murve

not a flame just a few thoughts...
reply to: how can somthing free be as good as the one you buy?, if Ford gave away cars would you get one?Avg just goes to show some things in life are free and work, avg does what sid says i read the same mag and cancelled my subscription to norton saving a load of cash as i had to buy new version 2004.
did any av catch the likes of blaster after you'd rebooted a few times till the ms update came out er no.
ived used free avg ,free avast , bought pcillin , norton ,mcafees etc.
and i found over the years, avg works just as well as norton so why pay for it?.ok norton has extra facilities built in the freebies dont but thats the added value you pay for, for general pc use the av is only as good as the updates, the virus writers nowadays seem to preempt ppl using norton so they program work rounds making it useless, so i think it doesnt always pay to run with the pack.
lets see how sp2 norton 2005 etc works out.
the proof of the pudding is try em all
one will suit your needs and pocket.
