Hi all.

It is my understanding that AVG is giving up their free Anti Virus software as of January of next year.. does anyone know of any other good ones out there. I have seen one called Avast.. and I know there are several others. But I have not heard of any of them.. does someone out there use any of the free ones and you have one you can recommend?? Thanks a lot.

DJ

I think they will continue offering a free version. But you should try this freebie from AOL powered by Kaspersky. Don't worry, they changed some of the wording in the EULA to everyones satifaction and to see for myself, installed it a few days ago. Runs great and no spam. Your basically getting a free Kaspersky 6.0 without some of the bells and whistles. Protection wise, it's hard to beat.

Been running the new 7.5.430 for about a week now; all is running fine. The only thing that I didn't like was that e-mail scanner; way too obtrusive for me. So I had to read up on how to delete it.
But other than that; all is well in the merry ole' land of Oz.......

By Supported - I meant that Updates will be availabe in the usual way - there is no Technical Support for the Free Version but there is an AVG Forum....

My newly downloaded version of AVG 7.5 Free is corrupted and buggy, doesn't run and the uninstall doesn't work.

AVG wrote and said they won't support it (or me) in manually removing from my system.

The only thing supposedly running is the boot scan and it intereferes with my scandisk and defrag, and other AV program.

Can anyone here help me manually remove it?
Ty,
Echoe

Bob, got your advice here, thank you. Uninstall didn't work, and had run reg cleaner.

Got other info from Tuffenuf, (see post on Manually Remove AVG) to dowload another AVG AV7.5 and run setup, then uninstall, that removed most files, but 15 still left, including 4 .exe files.

Thanks for all the help!
