That was the reason I switched to Avast Free a few years back. I don't know what the solution for AVG is, sorry, but Avast seems to stop viruses and adware on the fly in real-time...works great for me, no more scheduled scans, etc. If you would like to couple Avast with a great free firewall, I would suggest Commodo Pro
