I have had AVG6 on my system for sometime, which was downloaded free for personal use. I now note that AVG now talk about a "Free Edition" on their website.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these two please? Should I stick with what I've got or change to the (presumably newer) Free Edition? Thx.

AVG free works great , they keep up with all the updates even on the free edition , have not had a virus since installing this program , for the money it works fine. :-)

Grisoft offers two products for everyone, except for those in Europe. AVG6 is free, and AVG7 is the paid version. AVG6 has never been free in Europe. Just keep it updated and practice proper security practices and you should be safe. Take care and all the best!

Thanks all.

Like most I'm totally happy with the product, it's just the way "three" versions seem to appear on their website.

I understand AVG6 (free) and AVG7 (prof) but am still a tad confused about "AVG Free Edition". Are "AVG6" and "AVG Free Edition" one and the same thing? Each has it's own link on there.

I'm from the UK. If the difference between them is the Europe/Non-Europe versions, then was I wrong to have ever downloaded AVG6 in the first place. The updates arrive fine.

Well, Capt, the UK isn't in Europe, it's just on their side of the ocean, LOL.

From the site of AVG (some time allready):

AVG Free Edition is now available for all single home users worldwide [end quote]

I'm not sure, but i think europe (and even the UK) belongs to the world-region too!

AVG6 is the free edition.

Thanks. I think where the confusion arose is because there are links on the website to both "AVG6" and "AVG Free Edition", so I started wondering if they were different in some way or another.

I would conclude therefore that if you download either one you get AVG6, so they are indeed one and the same thing.

Question answered - thanks all.
