Althoug AVG 6 Free Edition is Good and I used it for Many years backed to t Windows 98 (First edition era).
But once more, it let me down again....

Today I received a zip file from those Spam mail. For sure I knew it is a virus obviously.

But I wanna test what is the virus name just for fun...hmm...
Copied it to my drive and at the first place, AVG real-time scanner failed to stop in any action.
Then I scanned it manually wothout any detected result, so desperated then.
N.B. using full scan option including compressed format and most update database (406)

BTW, ha ha, my PC has installed all the 6 best of Free vesion Antivirus program, just leaving AVG for the real-time guard for protection. Just caus after my own testing, it gave the less system resources and less burden in system performance. U know i am still using Pentium 266...:) n also caus AVG real-tme guard is just telling u whether something is virus or not, it will not kill it immediately until u run the scanner manually. I bet there are still people did not know this fact. But i like it for it will not slow down my PC even using some Disk Defrag software, in which others free antivirus software really slow down very much. Because i noticed that other real-time av guard would scan every file no matter u are just defrag your HD.

Yes, I used the following Free version Antivrus program:

AVG 6 , Grisoft, Czech , www.grisoft.com

Avast 4 , Alwil , Czech , www.avast.com

Anti-Vir 6 ,H+BEDV ,Germany ,www.free-av.com

BitDefender 7.2 Free Edition, BitDefender , Romania, www.bitdefender.com (No real-time guard)

eTrust EZ Antivirus , Computer Associates , US, www.ca.com (One-year free based on one email address)

eScan AV Toolkit Utility (mwav.exe), Micro World, US, www.mwti.net (Engine by Kaspersky, Russia)

mwav.exe is a very good stuff, i called it a Folderware (i use this world myself for years to describe those software need not to have installation, just run within a custum folder, very nive, i collected more than a hunderd Folderware :)... ) Whey it is good, obviously when some friends PC got infected with a outdated database AV and cannot link to the Internet, u will notice the benefit.

2 more very good free AV folderware (Actually they are high threat collective virus Removal Tool apart from single virus removal tool. )

McAfee Stinger (stinger.exe), A.V.E.R.T. , US , http://vil.nai.com/vilstinger under Network Associates

avast! Virus Clener Tool (aswclnr.exe) , avast! again , well done Czechs ;)

I always use my files changed option to periodically download the 3 free AV folderware on hand by my Download Manager program, lets have a try...

http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclnr.exe

ftp://ftp.microworldsystems.com/download/tools/mwav.exe

http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger.exe

And pls forget Vcatch ......;(

At last who want to test the zip file I memtioned that failed under AVG 6, I would like to email it.

THX all, and hope i can help :).....

Sorry, forgot to mention all other 5 free AV software can caught the mentioned zipped virus file.

But I will still use AVG 6 Free Edition if i want to choose just one, for missing ocassion virus will happened to others i can say. But the point is this time the zip file is a Beagle-i in which it is a high n hot threat recently that should not act like "unforced error" in tennis for a famed software.

cheers

Are they running at the same time? Multiple AV programs can interfer with each other.
