Comment: I'm a new user to XP..I am about to install AVG for my av protection. Just wondering if I will have any problems with AVG and the XP firewall. I am very familiar with AVG, but I know diddly about a firewall or XP. Will I need to change settings that I don't know how to change? Remember, there are no stupid questions, just stupid people like me....Thanks,Gill

Reply: (edit)You probably wont have problems using the two programs simultaneously. However, the new firewall may give you a little trouble. The new firewall will block programs attempting to access the internet resource. Also, it will block certain features of websites. To view the blocked content of a website, you will notice a rectangular box under the address bar of IE (internet explorer) to view the content blocked, click the box and click "allor" or "accept" I will warn you, it is blocking the content because it could pose a security risk to your system.

Reply: (edit)AVG's homepage has a page with detailed instructions how to set up some different firewalls so work with AVG. Among them XP's firewall. Personally I use Sygate Personal Firewall instead of the built in one. Nigel
