Subject: AVG and Outlook Express plug in problem |
Comment: I just started using AVG and I use OUtlook Express for email. It has a place to check for Outlook Express plug in, but when I check that my OE won't open at all. It just hangs and I have to press Ctrl Alt Del and end task. Anyone know what this is about and how to fix it? Thanks.

Reply: (edit)Suzi, I did not check that because I have the IE6 and it has Outlook Exp 6, and it said Outlook 5, so maybe you also have 6, and maybe it does not work with 6. I have Outlook but don't use it much, I use the Hot Mail, but with my outlook address that way the email is scaned for virus's before it gets to me, just another way of trying not to get a virus again. Reply: (edit)I use both AVG with the plugin enabled and Outlook Express 6 without any crashing problems. A new item (AVG Menu) has appeared under OE6 Tools and outgoing mail is stamped as certified virus free. I can only suggest uninstalling AVG, cleaning up the the registry for anything left after the uninstall routine has run, checking that OE now works properly and then reinstalling AVG. Good luck.

Reply: (edit)I haven't tried but I doubt that you would see any difference. IE6 introduce a number of security improvements and there has been a critial update since then. Whichever you use, use the latest IE security update from MS. At the moment I am still evaluating AVG and although I like some of the features I am not too happy with the results of some of the independent test done on it (http://www.computing.net/security/wwwboard/forum/64.html)

Reply: (edit) AVG is one of the best Anti-viruses out. I would not recommend IE 6, It has way too many bugs in it. I tried it twice,Only to remove it twice.

Reply: (edit)I installed AVG without choosing the Outlook Express plugin because I, too, am using Outlook Express 6 and it said 5. Now I know I need it but I don't see any chance to add the plug in now. Any one know how to add the OE plug in once AVG's been installed? THANKS!
