Reply: (edit)Avast Free works great and catches viruses in Real-time http://www.avast.com/eng/download-a... You don't have to schedule any scans or updates...it's all in real-time as you surf. You may also want to try Comodo Pro Firewall (FREE) and Spyware Terminator which also works in realtime. Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results as it will help others.

Reply: (edit)If you need a better virus checker it strikes me that there is something else wrong, so maybe your current firewall is inadequate or your browsing habits. Make sure you use the Immunize feature in SpyBot because that can keep stuff out. SpywareBlaster does the same sort of thing and sometimes they block different things, so that might be worth getting on board too - it uses no resources. Consider doing this (particularly if you visit dodgy websites): Drop My Rights (see reply #5) I would also run CCleaner because "sometimes" a nasty can be removed from Temporary Internet Files before it acts (if you always run CC before the next boot). A different AV might work out better for you but AVG free is used widely and that catches viruses in real time too. I don't know of any compatibility issues with Avast and other programs. DerekW

Reply: (edit)I have a client that would differ from response 2. She has been getting viruses on AVG (in real-time) and they don't show up untill she does a scheduled virus scan. That's what I'm talking about...Avast will STOP the virus in real-time and give you a chance to abort the connection to that page. Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results as it will help others.

Reply: (edit) My answer is AVG works fine as long as you set it up to get the daily updates , haven't had a virus in years . I also contend if you are getting a lot of viruses thru email your isp is doing a real crappy job on their end also , they should catch 99% of viruses coming in thru email .

Reply: (edit)Most of the antivirus products are pretty good...I have used AVG on and off for about 4-5 years...I have also used Norton, Trend Micro, McAfee and Sophos... But the one I like the best is Kaspersky...it's probably the most expensive antivirus on the market, but it is VERY effective... Of course, if your current antivirus product is working, then you think it is the best...and for you it is... But I think trying to patch together several "free" programs to do a pretty important job sometimes is self defeating...
