If u install AVG first, then when trying to install Avast, it will know and shut down its real-time guarding function and jsut install the rest. This is last time i met the case when i did that.

For Computer laymen, I would say go for AVG 7. It has improved the auto-update process n less sluggish for the system. But it is not convience to temporarily disabled the real-time guard which i think AVG think it should be for laymen n newbies.

For technically competent, I would say go for Avast. In terms of easy of use, resource loading are a bit reverse the experience to AVG 7. But it provides more extra protecting function n the temporarily disabled function is easy to use.

While we're at it, how does Avast compare as regards the resources it uses? Light, heavy...?
Anyone...? Thanks

I used AVG6 for a long time. When I upgraded to AVG7, it crashed me and I lost a lot of data and had other data scrambled. I looked at the AVG Free forum, and it seems that a lot of people had that experience. I can't afford THAT again, so I'm staying away.

Both are good antivirus software, i have no experience with them myself, but ive heard good things about them, I think the choice would be which suits u the best, so try Avast and compare..

Do some reading here - avast forum: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2

I tried mcAfee, norton, etrust (inoculatelT) avast and Anitivir and went back to etrust even after it crashed my system during a recent uninstall of the program. Easy to install and run and has kept me safe for years as for support - I give it a poor rating:-(

AVG 7 Free installed on a Windows ME 933 mhz machine . Haven't had a single problem with it so far , downloads the updates in about 2 seconds . Might a little more resource intense than Version 6 but not enough to make much of a difference and i'm running a older machine too . If you install it , reccomend pulling off whatever AV you are currently using , I pulled off Version6 before installing Version 7 and had no problems whatsoever .
