Hi was after some advice,

Have been using NAV for the past year as it came free with the computer I bought. The yearly subscription has now run out.

My question boils down to which is the better of the free anti-virus packages? Avast or AVG.

Any pros or cons of each package would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Avast! has on-line up-dates as you surf...AVG has to be scheduled.
I now use Avast! and it works great, I used to use AVG6.0 till it stopped letting me get up-dates, then, when I switched to Avast! it found 3 viruses AVG missed. It's up to you.

If you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Changes in registry can be FATAL! Glad to have a chance to help you.

Hello Paul,

I personally like AVG.
I have never had a problem with it and I like the fact that it pops up a warning in red lettering when it detects a virus. The virus removal is easy as well.
I had a lot of problems with Avast and removed it when it kept telling me that it failed to scan many areas. It did that to me from day one, so I went with AVG and it is smooth sailing. JMO.

Guess it comes down to personal preference then. Will try both and see which suits me best.

Thanks for the feedback on the previous 2 posts.

Dear ..

You will install AVG for different reasons:
1- FREE .. updates FREE
2- Very light over system and memory even during heavy loads.
3- Troubles free .. easy update .. finds viruses and cleans them faster than Symantec itself maybe due to its archeticture.

IMPORTANT: The best thing to do when using any antivirus is to install also ad-aware from lavasoft.com .. it is a robust anti trojan tool and also a for FREE ..

Now you get ur system protected against viruses from a virus specialist like AVG people and against Trojan from a very powerfull Trojan defender ..

:) .. ESHTAH ? :) yalla byebye

For me I havn't tried AVG but avast is FREE too. I never had any problems and if finds everything. Avast has a Standard Sheild, instant messaging shield, Network Shield, Email Shield, AND Peer to Peer sheild...Thats right I was using bearshare and limewire and it scan everything that I download. For example it Caught this one virus that I downloaded from limewire, but man Avast is awesome...Can AVG do all that?
