Avast! made it into the top 8 in the consumer report magazine Sept 2005 issue. Here's the line-up: 1-Trend Micro 2-Kaspersky 3-Softwin 4-Symantic/Norton 2005 5-Avast! 6-McAfee 7-Panda 8-Computer Associates. Avast was the only free one and actually equalled Norton in this issue. The others had yearly fees from $15 to $40 The rest is up to you, you can save or you can spend....it is your choice.

I'm not sure how the ratings are done, but I agree that AVG should have been there too.

Consumer Reports also has charted the ratings for Antispam software (CLICK ME) as well as Antispyware software (CLICK ME) For the latter, M$ came out the winner and look where Adaware & Spybot stood in the rankings.
