Folks,
Symantec has pissed me off big time so I refuse to use NAV Corp. on any of the servers I maintain but I need a good replacement AV product. I have heard some good things about Sophos but wanted to know if anyone has used it in a server environment or if you prefer another product. AVG is out of the question.
Remeber this is for a Win2K server and the workstations.

No, I will not fix your computer

I would seriuosly look at Computer Associates Etrust . This has always been a good AV and uses a lot less resources than Nortons . It's funny you say that about NAV , I know quite a few people that have dropped them . We use it at work and it has one of the slowest scanning engines I have ever seen to say nothing aboutthe resources it chews up while it is scanning .

After many unwarranted problems using Symantec products,I also am fed up am will no longer use their products.Im also looking for some good security/AV replacements.

I have used Sophos (SAV) in both NT4/2000 servers supporting 98/ME/2k/XP workstations.
It can be quite fiddly to setup and configure. Reading the manual before deployment (sometimes it has to be done!)made it clearer though. Also I used the Sophos Enterprise Manager tool which is great for scheduling updates and deployment although it requires an additional licence I believe.
Sophos appear to offer very good support. Usually there are 2-3 virus definition files posted every day but it isn't a problem with scheduled updates.
The 6 times I rang Sophos (UK) they were very helpful and rang back promptly if a technical advisor was unavailable at the time.
The main concern I had using Sophos was that it relies heavily upon virus signatures and does not have a heuristics engine like other products.
Sophos certainly offers certain alternatives to NAV but I'm certainly still considering options which may be more cost effective. Subscription rates all just seem so high!
I am keen to adopt and stick to one vendor's products as the time/cost involved in installing, licensing + learning new products is pretty alarming.
