Subject: AV Scan runs everytime I log onOS: Windows 2000CPU/Ram: 1.4GHz Pentium, 256MB |
Comment: Posted before, but note that there are *no* startup scans configured. Man this is irritating. Symantec AntiVirus 8 (managed) is configured to run a complete scan *once* per month, but in fact runs every single time I log on. This means SAV is using up my processor for twenty odd minutes while I wait for it to finish. Each scan is logged as completed, so it isn't trying to complete a previously failed scan. Ideas? Ta, Joe

Reply: (edit)Did you allow the first scan at installation to complete? Have you checked the Scheduled Tasks in the Control Panel to see what tasks are scheduled for Norton? Symantec uses the Scheduled Tasks of Windows rather than having the task built into the antivirus program itself, like most antivirus programs do. IMHO, once a month is a long time time to go without a full system virus scan.

Reply: (edit) You should eb able to kill the AV thru control, alt, delete and then shutting down the AV and restarting . Don't know why it would scan if it's not configured , another I don't use Norton .

Reply: (edit)All scans are allowed to complete and are recorded as such in scan histories, no scheduled tasks are under Control Panel. Scan histories also says that each scan was scheduled... Regarding your HO, real time file scanning and decent Internet policies and mail scanning prevents any kind of vius problem.

Reply: (edit)I'm running Win2K Pro, so no msconfig. I take it by 'norton options' you mean scheduled scans configured in the SAV client, I've already mentioned that there are none apparent. My work around is currently to stop and start the service, which gets me working...!
