Check your startup (msconfig) for any unusual applications that could be causing it
There are over 35 viruses released every day, you should try and keep your virus checker more up to date ;)

The 60 second timed shutdown is a sasser worm trait. You can go to start> run> type "shutdown -a " (without the quotes and note the space shutdown) >ok to abort the shutdown.
You need to have Stinger downloaded to a floppy and ready to run in the infected computer. Write protect the floppy with the plastic tab. It will remove sasser if that is the problem.

Best to do that in Safe Mode. Today I saw Sasser shut down Stinger after it was running and killing parts of it, while in Normal Mode. Had to go to Safe Mode so Stinger could run all the way through and get all of it.
