anyone know if outlook.zip is a virus. I know this sounds stupid but I got an email from someone that I dont know and opened the above file winzip opened it and then nothing happened I figured if norton didn't catch it then it should be safe, nothing has gone wrong with my computer except for the occasional lock up but I think thats from to many apps running. I've also gotten emails with URL.exe and exchange.exe these I havent opened yet as I would like to find out what the firs one is.

Okay,
I don't think so. What exactly does the
e-mail message say? I am saying this
because Outlook.exe is for Microsoft
Office.

Outlook.zip & outlook.exe may very well be virii. Oulook is the e-mail program for micro-$oft e-mail, and if I am not mistaken the executable for outlook is msimn.exe
Now, I am sure that outlook.zip and outlook.exe are not the executables for the program. So, practice good computing and do yourself a favour, do not open any e-mails with extensions like----.exe, .pif, ,scr, .vbs, .zip etc---- These are known virus extensions.
Cheers,
old murve

Worse, I just posted a note under Klez.h about what happend to someone. This morning it got through her NAV. She has Outlook Express, and thought all updates were installed.
Got through during download and may be a new version of Klez heading our way, as the machine is infected with an active virus, yet Nortons does not detect it.

Outlook.exe is INDEED the Program executable for Outlook. There's no valid reason I can think of that anyone would be sending you the exe. What's the point? Especially if you're not using Outlook as your e-mail client.
Tip One: don't open e-mails from senders you don't recognize.
Tip Two: always run an up-to-date REALTIME virus scanning program.
